A therapy dog can bring many benefits. The presence of animals can have a profound and positive impact on our mental well-being. One of the unique aspects of the therapy I provide is the presence of my therapy dog, Robyn. Robyn is a young Labrador retriever with five years’ experience providing support to those who need her. Many of my clients have noted the benefits of a therapy dog like Robyn being present during their sessions.

Robyn has many roles in the therapy room. She is renowned for her loving welcome when you arrive at the house, and she is always happy to see you. If you are starting therapy for the first time, or you are apprehensive about what therapy involves, Robyn will sense your anxiety and will make great efforts to calm your nerves. She does this by sitting beside the client’s chair so they can pet her head as they talk. After a few minutes you won’t know she’s there unless you feel you need her.

Clients continuously comment on how Robyn lifts their spirits on bad days. Her presence eases their nerves as soon as they enter the room.

Robyn is particularly skilled with adolescent clients. It can be unnerving to sit with someone you’ve never met before and start talking about your life. Robyn acts as the third person in the room, breaking any tension the client may feel and letting them know that the therapy room is a safe and friendly space. She wants you to know you have nothing to worry about here.

If you would rather not have a therapy dog present during your therapy, let me know when you book your appointment.
